Seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher knows firsthand the devastating consequences of humanity's war with the aliens. When she's caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen...but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she'd only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head...

The Lux series is one of those series that has always held a very dear place in my heart. The fact that I get to read a new book in a universe that I have adored for so many years gave me absolute goosebumps. The story takes place four years after the events in the final book of the Lux series. The world continues to try and repair itself after an invasion of massive proportions threw it into chaos. Now, humans and Luxen live side by side in a very uneasy truce. For Evie, one night at a club that was known as a Luxen haunting ground is about to change her life. Luc is the sexy, mysterious boy who she believes is a Luxen but if you’ve read the Luxen series, you know he is so much more. Evie is not taking any of his cockiness though. She’s got her own sass that I loved, even when she’s melting into a puddle of drool when he keeps popping up shirtless. Luc sure has grown up. I thought Daemon was the love of my life but Luc made it hard not to cheat!

“…we can pretend like you weren’t checking me out.”
“I wasn’t.”
“Whatever makes it easier for you to sleep at night, because checking out someone you think is an alien? Oh, the horror.”
“You are an alien.”
“You know nothing, Evelyn Dasher.”

I was expecting a homage to the series when I started reading and I got so much more. Action, shirtless boys, drama, friendship, grilled cheese, old favorites, and plot twists. Hello. I had all the feels reading this. It was like visiting an old friend and meeting new ones. I loved that the ending actually ended. There’s no sort of cliffhanger but rather, the potential for more but with a satisfying ending. I think fans of the Lux series will be happy with this new story and those who haven’t read get an intro to it that doesn’t disappoint.

Hi NerdyChic! I am a huge fan of the Lux series results are and Luc is one of my favorite characters! I can’t wait to read his story and wish that I could get the book early so badly!! I just read your review of the book and wanted to know how you would describe the relationship between Evie and Luc. Do you think that they are a good match for each other? Thank you for giving me your time and have a good day!

    • It reminds me a little bit like Kat & Daemon but less antagonistic and the roles are sort of reversed. Evie is suspicious of him and doesn’t want to like him but no can help it when it comes to Luc and yes, I def think they are a good match. When you read it, you’ll see why I say that. LOL.

Thanks for your response! I can’t wait to read the book when it comes out! I’m looking forward to reading about the relationship between these two and learning more about Luc as a character.

Omg! This review just made me more excited than I was. Jennifer is my favorite arthor. I feel like hes going to make me feel like I’m cheating on Daemon *cries*. Great review, truly!!

Ps. Where can we get arcs for this??

    • I was lucky enough to stalk Jennifer during BookCon and waited about an hour an a half on line to try and be one of the 50 people they were being handed out to. I was a nervous wreck trying to get it.

Good afternoon NerdyChic! I can’t wait to get my hands on this book and find out more about Luc. Can you give us any hints about the nature of the plot twist? I can already guess that Evie is not completely human. Can you also tell us how the Arum will be involved in this story?

      • Jorden Lewis

Thank you for your response. I have some more questions though. Are you saying that the Arum are not important in this story or any of the plot twists all? I’m sure that Evie would eventually find out about the Arum and their history with the Luxen. Where exactly is the hint for one of the plot twists in your book review above? Can you give me any clues to who and what Evie really is? What do you think about Luc in this novel?

        • The Arum will always be important to the Lux and this story is no exception. There’s just no plot twist when it comes to them in this book. It would be very spoilery to say more, especially since the book does not release for a few months yet and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who wants to read it. I will say that if it’s been a while, read the last two books and pay attention to characters that are introduced.

I also sent you an email about this theory that I had about Evie’s true nature. I would love it if you told me about what you thought about it. Thank you for giving me your time and have a great day.

Do you believe that Evie is just a normal human? Some things that she is exhibiting such a not having a trace and her seeming to sense things seem to point to something else. I don’t believe that her not having a trace is due to a serum either. What do you think?
