NICO

She serves me coffee late at night when I come around to write lyrics,
but it’s not the caffeine I’ve gotten addicted to.

We’ve got the spark, but she’s the only woman in town
who seems to be immune to my charms.

When it’s time for me to leave for my cross-country tour,
I just can’t imagine not seeing her for months.

So I offer her a job on the road with me.

KAT

Everyone in LA knows that Nico Todd has a way with songs and with the ladies.

What he doesn’t know is that I would love to let him have his way with me.

But my life can only revolve around one infuriatingly cute guy—
the six-year-old that I live with.

Imagine my surprise when Nico finds out about my little boy
and tells me to bring him and my mom on the road too.

And imagine Nico’s surprise when he realizes my son
is the biggest charmer of them all.

In a time where the world seems to be falling around us, Charmer by Kayley Loring is a breath of fresh air. This book embodies the title as it is utterly charming and endearingly funny. I found myself laughing and forgetting about the world around me, something everyone needs right now.

“I can’t tell which of us reaches for the other first, but it doesn’t matter. Nothing matters except that my hands are cradling her face and my lips have found hers and she tastes like gin and lime and mint and sugar and desire.”

Rockstar Nico can’t stop thinking about the lovely waitress who serves him coffee late at night but Kat seems to be utterly immune to his charm. Total lies. Kat is just as intrigued by him, just better at hiding it. So when he asks her on a 30 second date from the coffee shop to her car, she can’t refuse. And those 30 seconds pack quite a punch. Super swoon. But she has a little secret that comes in the package of a six year old son and a mother who they live with. That’s not enough to deter Nico though. When he meets adorable little Tate and his equally adorable personality, Nico’s not running in the other direction. He offers Kat the job of a lifetime. Come with him on tour, family in tow, to document his journey and give the fans a taste of who the real Nico is and hopefully show Kat that he’s not afraid of her ready-made family and he’s in it for the long haul.

“That was some trick, Nico Todd. Getting my whole family to fall for you. Or maybe I somehow got him to fall for my family. Either way, it’s magic.”

I can’t believe that I’ve never read a Kayley Loring book before and the second I finished the book, I immediately started searching for more reads. The characters are likable and relatable. The book is funny, the pacing is steady and I wanted more. I loved the side characters! His sister and best friend are married and have their own book so of course, I immediately downloaded, and Nico’s grandmother and Kat’s mom are a riot. Can you read how much I loved this book or should I go on? Seriously, pick this up and forget the world for a little while.
